Tripura, Mizoram, Manipur, Nagaland, Assam to receive rains as Cyclone Bulbul heads forth

November 10, 2019 10:46 AM |

During the last 24 hours, entire Northeast India was in grip of Very Severe Cyclonic Storm Bulbul. Dense clouds were prevailing in the region which resulted in fall in day temperatures along with light to moderate rain and thundershowers at many places. The southern parts of Northeast states have received more rainfall activities as compared to northern regions. While Lengpui received 5 mm rains, Halflong 11 mm, Jorhat 3 mm and Kailashahar recorded 7 mm rains.

The Very Severe Cyclonic Storm has crossed the coast close to Sunderban Dhanchi forest between 20:30 to 23:30 hrs IST with a speed of 110 to 120 kmph gusting to 130 kmph. The same system has weakened into a Cyclonic Storm at 5:30 hrs as of November 10 and lies centered at Lat 22.2 N and Lon 89.5 E about 130 kms East-Northeast of Sagar Islands, 130 kms East-southeast of Kolkata and 75 kms West-northwest of Khepupara (Bangladesh).

It will be moving in a East-northeast direction across South Bangladesh coast while weakening into a Deep Depression during the next 6 hours. Further the same system would be moving in east-northeasterly direction and weakening subsequently after 6 hours into a Depression.

Due to influence of this system, moist winds are continuously affecting Bay of Bengal over to Northeast states. During the next 12 to 18 hours, strong winds about 40-60 kmph with intermittent spells of light to moderate rain and thundershowers would be affecting many places over Tripura, Manipur, Mizoram, Nagaland, South and Upper Assam, Meghalaya, and Arunachal Pradesh.

The states of Tripura and Mizoram may experience heavy showers at isolated places during the day. However, as same system is weakening continuously the rainfall activity will be decreasing as the day progresses.

The weather will start clearing from upper Assam onward after 24 hours. Also, the wind speed and rain intensity will decrease significantly. Hence, light rain will be affecting at scattered places over Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, and Manipur. However, Tripura, Mizoram and extreme Southern parts of Assam may see moderate spells. Crops over Tripura and Mizoram are likely to be affected.
