Heavy rains in Northeast India

The northeastern states of the country i.e. Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Manipur, Mizoram, Nagaland and Tripura have been witnessing good pre-Monsoon weather activities in the form of rain and thundershowers since the beginning of May.

Heavy rains remained confined mainly to Assam, Meghalaya and Arunachal Pradesh. Meanwhile, rest states have been observing scattered on and off rain and thundershower activities.

But now a cyclonic circulation will develop over Meghalaya and adjoining parts of Tripura. Along with this, humid winds from Bay of Bengal will increase and feed moisture over the northeastern states.

Therefore, with the combined effect of these weather conditions, we expect heavy to very heavy rains over parts of Tripura and adjoining Meghalaya. Rest northeastern states such as Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Mizoram and Nagaland will also witness light to moderate rains with one or two heavy spells.

These pre-Monsoon rain and thundershower activities will be accompanied with strong winds. In fact, lightning strikes and flash floods in parts of the region cannot be ruled out. Locals and tourists in the region must take precautions to safeguard life and property.

Thus, we can say that in the coming 48 hours we expect heavy rains accompanied with gusty winds and violet lightning to lash the northeastern states of India. After 48 hours, intensity of these pre-Monsoon weather activities will start reducing to some extent.
