A downtown Salt Lake City bookstore will close by the end of June

The owners of Eborn Books, a Main Street staple, say they’re closing their downtown shop by the end of June.

Bret Eborn, who runs the store with his wife Cindy, told FOX 13 their landlord is renovating the building and that Eborn Books must move out.

“From what I’ve heard, the owners are trying to attract more restaurants and bars into the downtown,” Bret said.

Bret and Cindy estimate they have tens of thousands of books in the store. They’re known for selling classics, “very weird” science-fiction novels and rare books, like a $5,000 signed copy of former Latter-day Saint president Thomas S. Monson’s memoir.

Bret said they plan to offer 50% off books through all of June. They’ll close at the end of the month.
