Idaho man dies on first solo hang-glider flight at Utah park

A hang glider died Tuesday after a crash at the Point of the Mountain flight park.

Ron Holder, 59, of Rupert, Idaho, was on his first solo flight when the crash occurred, said Utah County Sheriff’s Sgt. Spencer Cannon. The crash happened shortly before 10:30 a.m. at the flight park north of Lehi.

Witnesses have reported that the wind perhaps dwindled. Holder made a turn, possibly to gain altitude, but instead dropped about 50 feet onto the hillside.

Witnesses attempted CPR, but Holder died at the scene, according to a news release written by Cannon.
