For the first time since 2016, the West Virginia football team is unranked as the Mountaineers prepare to begin the 2019 season. Although WVU is unranked, the Mountaineers are still receiving votes in the AP poll. One voter has WVU at #23 in the country. There are just three Big 12 teams ranked in the preseason top 25. Oklahoma is ranked fourth in the nation, followed by Texas at #10 and Iowa State at #21. TCU and Oklahoma State also received votes, like the Mountaineers.

Along with TCU and Oklahoma State, Missouri is a third team on WVU’s schedule that is receiving votes in the poll. The Mountaineers’ first opponent, James Madison, is currently sitting in the second spot on the FCS Coaches Poll.

After some changes on the offensive line, redshirt junior Josh Sills is having to adjust to his new role as WVU’s center. Sills had been playing guard, but head coach Neal Brown and co-offensive coordinator Matt Moore have been working to build the offensive line around Sills and Colton McKivitz, and it was decided that Sills would be the best fit at center. Sills has not played center since his high school days at Meadowbrook in Ohio, but he understands the importance of the position and is working to regain the muscle memory that is needed at center.

The #11 West Virginia women’s soccer team will have opportunities to show off for national audiences, as the Mountaineers have three matches that are set to be nationally televised. The first televised game will be on Fox Sports Network against Oklahoma State. A few days later the Mountaineers will take on Oklahoma on ESPNU. On Halloween WVU will be of FS1 in a match against TCU. All three of the televised games will be at home for WVU, which will also give Mountaineer fans chances to show their pride in the very successful women’s soccer team.

Junior defensive lineman, and Fairmont native, Darius Stills is ready to step into the spotlight as he prepares to take on a larger role for the Mountaineers’ defense this season. For years Stills was often overshadowed by his younger brother Dante, who also plays for WVU, but it also helped motivate him to work harder and prove himself. Stills will look to use his speed, strength, and experience to help the WVU defensive line this year.
