Somerset's Chance Stayton named AP All-State First Team 

When the Kentucky High School football Associated Press All-State nominations came out on Monday, Somerset senior Chance Stayton and Pulaski County junior Jake Sloan came out on top among the local players.

Somerset High School senior Chance Stayton was named to the Associated Press Kentucky High School Football All-State as a First Team punter.

And while Stayton is a standout baseball player for the Briar Jumpers, the versatile Somerset athlete has made a sweep of post-season football awards. Stayton was named the Football All-County Team and was named Honorable Mention in the Coach's All-State Football Team

However, among the Kentucky media members, Stayton was voted the top high school punter in the state. Stayton made 48 tackles, 2 interceptions and consistently reversed the field for the Briar Jumpers with his punting ability.

Pulaski County High School junior receiver Jake Sloan was named the AP Second Team All-State. Sloan caught 116 passes for 1,666 yards and scored 13 touchdowns. Pulaski County High School senior quarterback Wiley Cain was named AP All-State Honorable Mention. Cain completed 329 passes for 3,987 yards, and threw 35 touchdown passes. Cain also rushed for 196 yards and scored two touchdowns on the ground.

Somerset High School defensive lineman Landon Fields was named AP All-State Honorable Mention. Fields was a big part of a solid Briar Jumper defense that held opponents to only 12 points per game and 62 rushing yards per game.

Pulaski County High School sophomore running back Tristan Cox was named AP All-State Honorable Mention. Cox rushed for 859 yards and scored 19 touchdowns.

Southwestern High School senior quarterback Drew Sawyers was named AP All-State Honorable Mention. Sawyers rushed for 1,227 yards and scored 13 touchdowns on the ground. Sawyers completed 66 passes for 1,227 yards and had 8 touchdowns in the air.

Somerset High School senior defensive back Treavor Brock was named AP All-State Honorable Mention. Brock made 44 tackles, 11 for losses, 4 quarterback sacks, 3 fumble recoveries and 5 interceptions.

Southwestern High School senior wide receiver JP Vaught was named AP All-State Honorable Mention. Vaught caught 33 passes for 600 yards and scored 5 touchdowns.

Western Hills High School's Wandale Robinson was a scoring machine who capped his stellar senior season with a 34-point eruption to lead the state, and was named the AP Kentucky Football Player of the Year.

Brandon Smith coached South Warren to a second unbeaten championship season in four years, guiding the Spartans to the Class 5A title three years after they won Class 4A with a 15-0 record, and was named AP Kentucky Coach of the Year.
