THE toads going on display in and around Taunton this summer have all arrived in town.

Artists have been busy painting the giant fibreglass amphibians to look their best ahead of their official unveiling.

Taunton Toad Trail is being launched amid plenty of razzmatazz next month, with more than 20 models then being sited around the local area.

Families will be encouraged to take part in a fun competition to follow the trail and track down all of the toads, designed by local artists, businesses and charities and sponsored by local businesses.

Trail maps will be on sale for £1 at locations on the trail, while a website and Facebook account are already live and a Taunton Toads app will be available to download.

All in all, it promises to be a perfect family day out around the county town and beyond.

A trail spokesman said: “As well as encouraging locals to follow the trail and learn more about where we live, it is hoped the project will attract visitors to Taunton from across the region and other parts of the country, providing a welcome boost to businesses and the community.”

The models will then be exhibited and auctioned off - a lucky person will win one in a draw running in tandem with the trail.

Taunton Toad Trail, supported by your County Gazette, follows the successful Dragon Trail in the town five years ago and involves artists, schoolchildren and community groups.

Profits will go to the League of Friends, which is celebrating its 60th anniversary and promotes voluntary service at Musgrove Park Hospital, as well as raising funds to buy equipment.

The money will go on improvements to the Bracken Birthing Centre, a new birthing pool and improved facilities at Musgrove.

Taunton Toad Trail is being launched in Orchard Shopping Centre on Saturday, July 13, between noon and 3pm, when there are a few surprises in store, including painting, face painting, badge making, performances and much more.

You’ll also be able to get your toad draw tickets and there will be plenty of toad merchandise on sale.
