UPDATE: Around 20 cars destroyed in barn fire near Taunton
HUGE plumes of smoke have been spotted issuing from a fire on the outskirts of Taunton.
Multiple fire engines are at the scene, where a barn has caught on fire in Poundisford Road.
The firefighters were called at 8.45pm.
Vehicles outside of the barn have also caught on fire.
A spokesperson for Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue said: "One fire appliance from Taunton was initially sent to a small fire that was out of control.
"On arrival, crews requested a further five engines as the barn was well alight.
"The second and third from Taunton, Cullompton, two from Wellington, Bridgwater, the water carrier from Bridgwater, the incident command unit from Wiveliscombe and the welfare unit from Crediton were sent.
"This is a single storey barn 40m by 8m constructed of timber and sheet asbestos containing vehicles. Vehicles also outside the building on fire.
"Crews got to work with two hose reel jets and one main jet awaiting the back up crews."
