The festive season has quietly begun in the city centre of Bath.

The city centre lights were switched on at around 3pm on Thursday (November 15), signalling the start of the festive season.

The decorations on Union Street, Milsom Street and several others were illuminated.

But the switch on was marked with very little fanfare, in contrast to previous years when huge crowds had gathered to see a celebrity push the button.

Previous switch-on guests have included Nicolas Cage, Mary Berry and John Cleese.

Check out the first pictures of the lights below.

It is the second year in a row there has been no 'event' to mark the switching on of the lights.

But there is an event being held on November 24 on Moorland Road where a lights display will be switched on.

The Festival Forest and Magical Wardrobe experience in the SouthGate shopping centre has begun.

The Bath Christmas Market begins on November 22 to December 9.
