The owner of an independent shop in Bath believes that the street she is on is now the best one in the city.

In recent weeks, Margaret's Buildings has welcomed new business, Golden Spa, and today (June 7),  gallery and design store, Eight Holland Street, opened too.

In the past few months, the charity Mercy in Action opened a shop along this street, as did Bath's ' first CGI shop ', Table Creative.

This is a far cry from the bleak times the street endured back in January when Rostra Gallery and a Crystals closed and Dovetail Lettings had shut in the not so distant past.

Tanya Haughton-Allen, owner of independent shop Uber Clothing in Margaret's Buildings, says that this resurgence is great for the street.

She even went as far as saying that she thought this was now the 'best street in Bath'.

"I think the turnaround is amazing but I am not surprised. I think this is now the best street in Bath," she said.

Golden Spa tradional Chinese and Thai massage is one of the street's new shops

"You have a laundrette, a charity shop and then really high-end shops which is fabulous. The mix we have here is really eclectic.

"We also have a cafe, restaurant, these lovely new shops and I think another shop is coming as well. This street offers so many things, I am really pleased.

"I am not surprised that it has turned around. It is more affordable than the city centre. Rents and rates are so high in the centre which is why businesses come here.

"I am really excited about the future, it is looking very bright."

Golden Spa is open from Monday to Sunday from 9am-9pm and offers Chinese Traditional, Thai massage, Relaxing full body massage, essential oil massage, neck, back and shoulders massage, sports remedial massage and foot massages.

On Eight Holland Street's website, it reads: "8 Holland Street are excited to announce the launch of their second gallery and design store opening in Somerset this June.

"Housed in a large Grade-II listed building in the Unesco World Heritage City of Bath, the new space sits in the heart of the historic city.

"The interior retains the Victorian mahogany vitrines and gilded glass lettering from its former life as home of the Bath Oliver biscuit and flagship store of the high-end wine and grocery merchants Cater, Stoffell and Fortt Ltd.

"The expansive three-floor double-height gallery and shop will boast an extensive collection of 8 Holland Street’s antique and modern furniture and artworks, with a greater emphasis on smaller products and homeware including textiles, ceramics, artworks and design.

"We are excited to be working with several new British designers including ceramicist Ali Hewson, artist-duo Forest + Found, marble-paper maker Florence Saumarez and studio potters from Leach Pottery, St. Ives.

"We will also launch pieces by European designers including French design partnership Laurence Brabant & Alain Villechange, Dutch maker Matias Moellenbach and Milan-based brand R+D.Lab in the UK for the first time.

"The new space will also feature small collections by popular design brands. For the first iteration we are pleased to invite designer Matilda Goad to put together a selection from her homeware range.

"Alongside this, stationers Papier will commence their first pop-up programme, Papier Presents…, with a collection of stationery by their celebrated young British design partners including Fee Greening, Luke Edward Hall and Matilda Goad.

"In our first floor galleries we will present a rotating exhibition of modern and contemporary British art. This summer we open with a display of prints by renowned Irish artists Jane and Tony O’Malley and ceramics by Oxfordshire-based Dylan Bowen."
