The manager of a new shop in Bath says she has had such a great reception from the local community since the place has opened.

UK charity Mercy in Action, in Margaret's Buildings, has moved into where women's boutique shop MiMi YuYu used to be, up until November 2017.

The charity's goal is to alleviate the suffering of children living in poverty in the Philippines through feeding, education and shelter.

Shop manager, Claire Adlam, said she was delighted with how well received the charity shop had been by customers and neighbouring shop owners alike.

Claire said: "We have had a great reception from the community since we have come in.

"Many of the other shop owners have come in and welcomed us to the local area, which is lovely.

"Lots of customers say it is really great to have a charity shop in the area.

"We have clothes, bric-a-brac, children's toys, books, media, vintage and vintage retro items on sale.

"We are both really excited about doing this and it is really great for our charity."

There are a vast array of different items to buy in the shop

Mercy in Action also has a project called Petra which helps young mothers to find housing and offers them support in Bath and the surrounding area.

"This is to help them get back on their feet by finding them housing and giving them that important support," said Claire.

"We help them get that independence that they need too."

Mercy in Action opened in Bath last week

Earlier this year, businesses on this street welcomed the news that a vacant shop was going to be filled.

Tanya Haughton-Allen, owner of independent shop Uber Clothing in Margaret's Buildings, was all for the move.

"I think it is great news," she said.

"As long as there is a nice eclectic mix of shops in Margaret's Buildings, I am all for it."

This street had several empty shops until recently

Ellie Witton, who runs nearby shop Ellie Rose Bridal, was also pleased about the shop opening.

"I think it is a shame to have an empty shop because there are so many empty ones popping up, particularly in the city centre," she said.

"It is nice to have someone in to fill the shop."
