Police are investigating a road traffic collision that occurred on Preston Road in Yeovil in the early hours of this morning (Tuesday, June 4).

The two-vehicle crash, which took place at around 2am, caused one car to overturn. The driver of this vehicle left the scene, police say.

According to Travel Somerset, the road was closed as a result to allow for emergency repairs.

A resident caught up in the traffic delays tweeted Travel Somerset, describing the closure as causing ‘carnage.’

A spokesman for Avon and Somerset Police said: “We were called to attend a two-vehicle collision in Preston Road, Yeovil, at around 2am this morning (June 4).

"One of the cars flipped over as a result of the collision. The driver of this vehicle left the scene. Our enquiries into this incident are ongoing.

“If anyone has information, please call us on 101 and give the call handler the reference number 5219123724.”

Travel Somerset tweeted an update at 9.30am today to notify drivers that Preston Road has been reopened.
