Tips from existing staff on scoring a job

Here, Aldi colleagues give insider tips on how to land the perfect role with the discount supermarket:

1. Visit the store before your interview

Deputy store manager, Jim Sandhu from Aldi Ripon, suggests: “It’s important for candidates to show their knowledge of the store and have an understanding of how it operates.

“I’d suggest visiting your local store to observe the team and its daily running.

“When applying for my role, I also chatted to the store manager, who kindly gave me some of his time, which put me in a very strong position in the interview as I was able to speak knowledgeably about how a store operates and identify some of the main challenges a deputy store manager would face.”

2. Do some desk research

Kelly Stokes, recruitment director at Aldi, says: “It’s likely you will have seen a role advertised in-store or on the website, but we want to see that applicants have really done their homework.

“We’re looking for people who are hungry to learn more about the business, have researched the history, the growth of the company and ways of working, so they’re in a great position to start their application and hopefully their new career.”

3. Demonstrate team work skills

Store assistant, Rebeka Weaver from Aldi Brecon, says: “Store Assistants are expected to roll up their sleeves and help with all aspects of the store, so new colleagues should be willing to work as a team.

“The stores can be extremely busy at times, therefore being able to turn your hand to an array of tasks and support your colleagues is essential.”
