Bath firefighters rescued a man from the river in Bath early this morning (August 16).

The 21-year-old was pulled from the river at Miles Street, Widcombe, at approximately 1am.

The student was had been celebrating his A-level results, according to the fire service.

A tweet from Bath Fire Station said: "Red watch...rescued a 21 year old student last night from the river at 1am.

"He was out celebrating his A-level results and was refused entry into a club.

"He was then separated from his friends and ended up in the river."

Bob Spink tweeted further details of the rescue. He said: "The young man was checked over by (the ambulance service) and appeared to be no worse for wear after his ordeal other than being cold and wet.

"Good quick rescue from the middle of the river by the Bath crew in their new rescue boat."

Crews from Bath fire station carried out what was described as a swift water rescue - a term used for a recovery from fast moving water.

The man was handed to ambulance crews.

A spokesperson for South Western Ambulance Service Trust said: "We were called on Thursday at 11.43pm to attend an incident in water near Miles Street, Widcombe.

"Our crews treated a male patient at the scene and discharged him.

"His condition was not thought to be serious."
