A luxury estate set in 62 acres of woodland and which is home to an award-winning gin business remains on the market.

Newton House, best known for the production of hand-crafted gin in a distillery on the site at Newton Surmaville, near Yeovil, was put up for sale by its owners after undergoing a major restoration last year.

Several months on, the house has yet to be sold.

At the heart of the estate is a 16th century manor house that boasts nine bedrooms, a library, home cinema, wine cellar and eight bathrooms, as well as a car showroom with space for 12 vehicles, numerous outbuildings, a gin bar, restaurant and fishing lake.

Also on the estate is a second house - known as the Gardeners Cottage - which is rented out as a holiday unit.

The Grade 1-listed main house was in a state of disrepair when purchased by its existing owners in 2007, but underwent a significant renovation to return it to its former glories as a vibrant Jacobean mansion.

It comes at a hefty price though, with estate agents Knight Frank advertising the complex online for an eyewatering £5,650,000.

The price includes all of the buildings on the estate, with the exception of the gin business, which is available by separate negotiation.

According to Rightmove, a 25-year mortgage on the property with an annual interest rate of 2.4 per cent and deposit of £595,000 will cost £22,557 per month to pay off.

A spokesman for Knight Frank, in an advert on Rightmove, said: "Beautifully appointed and standing in majestic parkland grounds with stunning formal gardens, Newton House is an immaculate estate extending to about 62 acres, with farmland spanning the River Yeo.

"A converted coach house provides amenity and commercial income and a cottage is used for holiday lets.

"The owners have spent years sympathetically restoring the house and improving the internal rooms and configuration, whilst also bringing the property firmly into the 21st century with modern services throughout.

"Notable rooms are the principal bedroom suite, the Great Hall, the 'Justice Room' which makes a fine study, the drawing room which is double aspect with a magnificent decorative ceiling frieze and the dining room, ideal for lavish entertaining with ample space.

"They have also spent considerable time and investment enhancing the magnificent formal gardens and grounds which are intersected by the River Yeo.

"The parkland and formal gardens are complemented by grazing land and supported by a number of domestic and commercial outbuildings.

"The property is home to a very successful business producing award-winning dry gin, with the converted the stables and coach house providing a stylish gin bar and function suite.

"The Gardeners Cottage is currently used as a highly sought-after holiday letting unit. Both of these properties are positioned away from the main house, ensuring privacy for private owners."
