A woman accused of killing her dad by throwing a remote control at his head left 22 voicemails in a day on a potential witness's phone to "intimidate him", a court heard.

Nicola Townsend is charged with the manslaughter of Terence Townsend at his home in Bath in December 2017.

It is alleged the 50-year-old chucked a channel changer at her own father after becoming frustrated and angry, then pushed the "frail" 78-year-old over in his kitchen.

Bristol Crown Court heard on Tuesday (August 20) Townsend had a history of attacking her dad, with Mr Townsend sometimes complaining of "fisticuffs" between the pair.

Townsend, of Bath, is also charged with intimidation of a witness after allegedly contacting brother-in-law Douglas Campbell to try and stop him speaking to police about Terence Townsend's death.

The court heard she would "bombard" Mr Campbell, wife of Townsend's sister Sally, after she had been charged with manslaughter.

This included leaving 22 voicemails on one day in February 2019 alone and sending "threatening" letters.

He said: "I felt very intimidated by some of the things she was saying - she was clearly in a rage.

"When you are on the receiving end of that...you are not quite sure how she is going to act. Are they just loose threats?"

Mr Townsend passed away in the Royal United Hospital in Bath on January 8, 2018 - twelve days after the altercation with his daughter.

He died from bronchopneumonia brought on by injuries - a fact not disputed by the court, according to Judge Peter Blair QC.

Under examination by Peter Binder, defending, Mr Campbell admitted Townsend and her father usually had a "happy relationship".

"When I saw them together everything was okay," he said.

But Mr Campbell claimed Townsend also had a darker side.

He said: "Unfortunately, Nic does have a temper. She loses control of what she is doing and what she is saying.

"I've only seen the aftermath, like some of the injuries [Mr Townsend] would sustain, damage around the home - kitchen doors hanging off."

The court heard Townsend's repeated attempts to contact Mr Campbell eventually ceased.

Jurors were also told she is an "obsessive" character who has had several brain operations in a bid to cure her epilepsy - leaving her with "personality problems".

Townsend denies both charges against her.

The trial continues.
