Photos show how eerily quiet Weston-super-Mare was over the Easter holiday period during the coronavirus lockdown.

Residents and holidaymakers appeared to have followed government guidelines on social distancing on Easter Sunday, with beaches usually bustling with bank holiday visitors almost empty.

Authorities had asked people to stay away from beaches and parks despite warm weather and the vast majority appeared to take the advice on board, as these quiet scenes from Weston-super-Mare show.

The town's tourist board had previously changed its name to "Don't Visit Weston" in bid to stop visitors from beyond Somerset from visiting the seaside town.

A number of measures have been implemented to deter visitors including shutting the seafront's car park and the town's famous Grand Pier.

But the town wasn't completely deserted, as some residents ventured out for their daily exercise along the seafront or on the beach.

Don't Visit Weston has also thanked tourists for staying at home to protect others and prevent the spread of COVID-19.

Our photo gallery below shows how quiet Weston-super-Mare was, and still is, while some people try to have some sense of normality during these unprecedented times.
