Police are appealing for help after a teenage girl was punched and kicked in an 'unprovoked attack' in Wiltshire.

Wiltshire Police say a 16-year-old girl was assaulted in an alleyway between Oldfield Park and Eden Vale Road in Westbury at around 9pm.

Following the assault, the offender ran off towards Eden Vale Road.

The suspect is described as a white man, of slim build, around 5ft 5ins tall and wearing a black hoody with grey or black jogging bottoms.

Community co-ordinator PC Lee Pelling, from Wiltshire West Community Policing Team, said: "This was a frightening attack on an innocent young girl walking home in Westbury.

"She was punched and kicked during the assault, which appears to have been a random, unprovoked attack.

"Luckily, she wasn't seriously hurt but has obviously been left upset by what happened.

"I want to reassure people that this type of incident is very rare and it is something we are taking seriously.

"We have been carrying out extensive enquiries, including house-to-house and looking through CCTV footage.

"We now want to hear from anyone who was in the area at the time and may have seen something suspicious."

The incident took place on Sunday, November 25.
