The Quedam Shopping Centre has issued a statement after a coffee shop shelved its opening just days before it was due to launch .

Hot Shots Coffee was expected to open in the old Starbucks unit on Monday (June 17), but it was announced on the business' Facebook page on Saturday that it would not be welcoming customers due to 'unforeseen circumstances'.

The news comes as a blow to the Quedam and to Yeovil , which was set to welcome its second new shop to the town in the space of a week following the opening of Dunelm on Ivel Square.

A spokesman for the centre said: “Due to unforeseen circumstances, Hot Shots Coffee have taken the decision not to open in the Quedam Shopping Centre.

"We wish them all the best for the future."

A spokesman for Hot Shots had written on Saturday: "It's with great sadness that we have to let you know that due to unforeseen circumstances, Hot Shots Coffee will not be opening.

"Thank you all so much for your overwhelming support."

Pictures of the fully-kitted out interior of the shop had been released in May, with a charity teaser opening attended by family and friends only last week.

Now the unit the shop was supposed to be housed in - located next to H&M - sits bare, with exposed plumbing and brickwork visible through the windows.

It had been hoped that Hot Shots would create six jobs and become the fourth local business to open in the shopping centre since the start of the year.
