A large number of police officers were seen in Bath city centre due to a concern for welfare incident today (May 29).

A resident contacted Bath.Live to say there was police activity at Norfolk Crescent before 8am with ambulance crews also on the scene.

The witness said an officer was also checking the riverside footpath.

Avon and Somerset Police have since said they received a concern for welfare call just before 7am and a man was taken to hospital.

"We received a concern for welfare call shortly before 7am and a man was left in the care of paramedics and set to go to hospital," said the police spokesman.

The witness said the emergency services were still at the scene past 8.30am.
