A man died after a serious collision involving two lorries and a van on the A4174 Bristol ring road.

The crash happened late into the morning on Thursday (February 14) at Bromley Heath.

All emergency service crews - including paramedics in an air ambulance helicopter, police and firefighters - were called to the scene, Bristol Live reports.

The carriageway remained shut for 10 hours as specialist collision investigation officers examined the scene.

An appeal for witnesses to the collision has been issued.

Avon and Somerset police said: "We are appealing for witnesses and information into a collision on the A4174 at Bromley Heath.

"It happened just before midday on Thursday 14 February, when two lorries and a van collided near to the Willy Wicket roundabout.

"Sadly one man died at the scene. We have informed his next of kin, although formal identification has not yet been completed.

"South Gloucestershire Council put road closures in place to allow emergency services to deal with the incident.

"We reopened one carriageway just after 2.30pm. The other carriageway was blocked by the vehicles involved.

"Specialist collision investigation officers examined the scene. The carriageway reopened by 10pm, following recovery of the vehicles."

The police has asked anyone who saw the collision or who has dashcam footage to get in touch online or call 101, quoting reference 5219033167.
