A man has died after suffering a gunshot wound at a house in Wells this morning (Tuesday, May 19).

Police were called to Everett Close shortly after 6am after receiving reports that a man had been injured.

Paramedics also attended but the man, who was in his fifties, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police say the man's death is not being treated as suspicious.

A forensics team is at the scene and are expected to remain there for several hours while an investigation into the incident takes place.

A spokesman for Avon and Somerset Police said: "We were called to an incident in Everett Close, Wells, shortly before 6.10am this morning.

"A man in his fifties was reported to have suffered a gunshot wound.

“Paramedics attended but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

“Crime scene investigators are attending the property as part of our ongoing work.

“Although the investigation is in its early stages, at this time the death is not being treated as suspicious and is considered to be a self-contained incident.”
