A man who died after suffering a gunshot wound at his home in Wells last month has been named.

Glen Travis Newstead, 56, of Everett Close, Wells, was found dead in bed with a gunshot wound at Everett Close, on Tuesday, May 19.

Police are not treating the death as suspicious and the family has been informed.

Somerset senior coroner Tony Williams confirmed he opened an inquest into Mr Newstead’s death on May 27.

A preliminary post mortem has returned the cause of death as ‘unascertained’ pending toxicology results becoming available, but the post mortem examination confirmed the gunshot wound.

Police were called to Everett Close shortly before 6.10am on May 19.

Paramedics attended but Mr Newstead was pronounced dead at the scene.

A forensics team was at the scene for several hours while an investigation into the incident took place.

Avon and Somerset Police is not treating the death as suspicious at present.

The inquest is ongoing.
