Customers have expressed shock after as a restaurateur appears to have closed the door on a popular Yeovil restaurant for the last time on Wednesday (May 29).

A post on the Facebook page for Mulberrys Restaurant and Grill on Union Street reflected on nearly ten years of serving the town.

The eatery is popular among coeliacs as it had a wide range of gluten free options.

It reads: "Mulberrys has been my life for the best of a decade, today is the day that I close the door, I can’t explain the emotions that I have, the staff that have been with me through thick and thin.

"New and old, your my family, I love you, more than words can describe, your my family.

"You all mean so much to me. You all know who you are!!

"To my customers you made me who I am, you made my life a joy, I’m sorry I couldn’t make everyone as happy as you were, I’ll come back again, I promise."

Customers have been saddened by the news and have been reacting online.

Michele Frehe wrote: "This is a real shock, I'm very sad to hear indeed.

"I and my husband set up Mulberrys originally many years ago and we have been so very pleased that you have run a successful business since we sold it.

"I can imagine it hasn’t been all a smooth run.

"So very sad but I wish you all the very best for the future."

While Grant Jones wrote: "I'm very very sad for you, I closed my restaurant 18 months ago.

"I certainly know how you’re feeling.

"However, there is light at the end of the tunnel and you now have a fantastic new life out of the trade."
