The UK could be set for the warmest August Bank holiday on record with temperatures expected to reach 28C.

Some areas of the UK could see the mercury hit the high 20s on Sunday, August 25 and while Somerset is set to sizzle, temperatures may be slightly lower.

The Met Office predicts Saturday to the warmest day of the three-day weekend in Somerset, with temperatures in Yeovil expected to hit 26C.

Larger areas around the county, namely Bath, Bridgwater, Glastonbury and Taunton, will experience highs of 25C throughout the weekend.

If you fancy a trip to the seaside, Weston-super-Mare is your best bet with highs of 25 degrees on Saturday (August 24).

The Mirror Online reports the warmest August Bank Holiday Monday on record was in 2017, when a temperature of 28.2C was recorded.

Forecasters at netweather.tv are more cautious and have predicted highs of 27C in London on Monday (August 26), just below the record.

A spokesman for the website predicted warm weather for much of the country over the bank holiday weekend.

They said: "There are signs that parts of the UK could see some fine, warm and sunny weather.

"This looks more likely for England and inland Wales, but the far north-west of England joins Northern Ireland and Scotland with a higher risk of rain, more cloud and temperatures remaining in the high teens/low 20s.

"For the rest of England and Wales temperatures could reach into the mid to high 20s.

"However, there is still a lot of uncertainty with the weekend forecast. High pressure is trying to build up from the south but low pressures and weather fronts continue to interrupt from the north-west."

But Betway think that next week could be hotter.

The bookmakers is offering 2/1 odds on the August bank holiday being the hottest on record.
