A 'pig carcass' has reportedly been dumped near a canal in Bridgwater.

A warning was posted on Facebook by a resident after she saw the carcass on the floor at the top of the canal on West Street.

Sadie Witcombe has warned dog owners after she said her pet took an interest.

In the post she said: "Somebody has dumped a pig carcass at the top of the canal on West Street.

"Warning other dog owners as my dog went straight for it."

She also raised concerns that the meat could be poisoned.

The post said: "There was a previous post from August 5 stating meat had been poisoned and thrown in people’s gardens around docks area so this could also be poisoned too!"

The graphic image shows the apparent pig carcass in several pieces on the floor, with some of it tied with orange string.

This is the second time this week a dead animal has been spotted near the water in Bridgwater.

On Tuesday (August 13), a dead cow was spotted in the River Parrett.

Both the Environment Agency and Somerset County Council said it wasn't their job to remove the cow, and it had been reported that the authorities were simply waiting for it to be washed out to sea.

After initial reports that the fire service may be assistance, Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service tweeted:  "I can confirm that @DSFireUpdates are not attending this dead cow.

"Sedgemoor Council and Environment Agency aware and waiting for it to wash out to sea."

As of yesterday (August 14), it appeared the cow had washed away.
