A woman has been rescued after getting stuck in the mud at Weston-super-Mare earlier today (August 1).

Emergency services were called to Weston Pier to assist the woman who was trapped in the mud under the structure.

Fire crews from Weston-super-Mare worked with the coastguard in the mud rescue operation.

The crew worked to free the woman, who was then put into the care of the paramedics.

Just before 4pm, Avon Fire and Rescue Service Control tweeted:

"Crews from Weston-super-Mare and Coastguard are taking part in a mud rescue incident under the Weston Pier.

"One female has been rescued by fire crews and is now in the care of the ambulance service."

Weston-super-Mare Fire station also sent out a tweet warning members of the public to stay out of the mud due to the "fast tides and treacherous sinking mud"

Following the successful rescue mission, the crews involved took a well-deserved ice cream break on the beach.

The service tweeted: "White Watch responded with our @swasFT and beach ranger colleagues to rescue a person from the mud.

"Then took a belated joint agency lunch break!

"Please stay out of the mud. We have fast tides and treacherous sinking mud. "
