Joe Raynes has signed a contract extension with Bath City.

Initially coming in as a triallist in 2018, the midfielder made his mark early and his renewal comes as a boost at the Romans prepare to host Truro City today and continue their assault on the National League South play-offs.

Manager Jerry Gill said: "We, as a club, are delighted to have secured Joe’s services. The fact he is a local lad living in Bath is important to us all, including you fans who see him as 'one of our own'.

"Joe has performed consistently in his first season at this level in a number of positions within the team. He knows he has to continue to work hard and perform at a high level in what is a very competitive first-team squad.

"I am in no doubt Joe will continue to develop further and retain his hunger and drive for success.”

Truro visit Twerton Park for a 3pm kick-off on what is a Bath City Family Day. Despite troubles off the field, they Cornish club have shown determination at the bottom to pull away from the drop zone and have former Roman Tyler Harvey among their ranks.

He netted in the 1-1 draw between the clubs in October. City have won their last five at home - their best spell for four years - and Gill is keen to remain competitive in the top seven.

“They’re a well-organised side, they’ll certainly come and fight for their lives,” the Romans supremo said.

"They’re scoring goals. They’re a difficult team to play against, like any team in this league. But we’re at home, where we’re in really good form. We’re confident.

“As I keep mentioning every single week, it’s about consolidating a play-off spot. That’s our aim, that’s our target."
