Sam Foley appears to have taken a social media swipe at Newport County.

The ex-Yeovil Town midfielder featured in the Exiles' friendly win at Weston-super-Mare last week; having played for them between 2009 and 2012.

However, Newport manager Mike Flynn told the South Wales Argus Foley won't be returning to the club on a permanent basis.

“I’ve spoken to Sam,” he said. “He’s had a very good offer from a Scottish Premier League club and I just wasn’t in the position to offer him [anything to match that].

“We didn’t even discuss terms. I wanted to have a look at him. He’s a great lad and somebody I’ve got a lot of time for, but I think the deal that he’ll get in Scotland will blow anything we could have offered out of the water because we’re right at the top of our budget.”

Foley appears to have been riled by the implication that money is a factor in his potential next move.

Replying to a link to the Argus story on Twitter, the 32-year-old posted: "I’m quite proud to say I’ve never made a decision based on money in whole career.

"The next chapter will be somewhere that will improve me as a player and a person and perhaps I'll go to a club that will show a desire to want me."

Some Exiles supporters would be glad to have him back...

And Yeovil fans who saw the comment would also be glad to see Foley return to Huish Park...

Foley was a popular player in green and white between 2012 and 2015. He played in the 2013 League One play-off win over Brentford and, at the end of the 2014/15 campaign won the Western Gazette's Player of the Year award.

After The Glovers were relegated for the second season in a row, he rejected a new contract in favour of a move to Port Vale to remain in League One.
