Tom Whelan has become Yeovil Town's seventh signing of the Summer.

The 23-year-old midfielder impressed new manager Darren Sarll as a trialist in three friendlies, including the 2-0 win over Taunton Town on Tuesday night.

He has now joined The Glovers on a one-year deal with the club retaining an option for a second. Whelan was one of the standout players for Salisbury in Southern League Premier South last season and had a loan spell with Bury at the end of the 2017/18 campaign, who gave him ma glowing review.

Sarll said: "What we didn't have was an influential midfield player and he fits the role and the way it's played.

"He had ringing endorsements from Bury, but he's also young without being wet behind the ears so he has the hunger, that ambition and that drive to become someone and something.

"When you marry that with guidance and direction that can be quite a dynamic connection."

The former Millfield School pupil spent four seasons at the Raymond McEnhill Stadium with Salisbury; winning two promotions.

The other recruits for Sarll so far have been defenders Thomas Bradbury, Lee Collins and Luke Wilkinson, strikers Rhys Murphy and Albi Skendi, and player-coach Andrew Crofts.

Crofts has been absent during the pre-season fixtures; leading to speculation amongst the supporters that he will actually not be at the club for the coming campaign. The club is yet to comment on that speculation.
