Matt Garvey is into his second season as captain of Bath Rugby.

The versatile forward is one of the club's longest-serving players; having joined from London Irish in 2013 and made 119 appearances for the Blue, Black and Whites.

As part of a new feature for the 2018/19 season, we sat down with the skipper and asked him ten questions about his likes, dislikes and routines off the field...

1. What's the best thing about being a professional rugby player?

The best thing about being a professional rugby player is the food at Farleigh House. We have got unbelievable chefs.

I have got no willpower and eat as much as I can, which is probably why the S&C (strength and conditioning) department are always chasing me.

2. Who was your sporting hero growing up?

I'm quite old school. I was brought up admiring the good old heroes. People like Bobby Moore... what kind of player, leader and enforcer in the back four he was for West Ham and England.

NB: Garvey is a West Ham fan.

3. Who are the best players you've played with and against?

The best player I've played with is Seilala Mapusua, who used to be our centre at Irish. He was everywhere and the skills he had, the power he possessed, was amazing.

You'd look at him and think he didn't look like a rugby player, but he'd just turn it on and completely change a game.

The best player I've played against, in my position, was probably (Wales captain) Alun Wyn Jones. I played against him at a young age and he was a master of the dark arts, a complete nuisance.

4. What's been your favourite game for Bath?

There are so many. Beating Toulouse away in the Champions Cup in 2015, that was quite impressive. Beating Toulon at home when I was captain last season.

The semi-final against Leicester at home in 2015 was another standout performance.

5. What is your pre-match or night-before meal?

Spaghetti bolognese. My dad (Rob) was a semi-professional footballer for Dagenham and Redbridge and my mum used to work late on Friday nights.

It was the one thing my dad could cook, followed by watching the same TV programmes - Shooting Stars, Red Dwarf, Harry Enfield.

I've always had that same meal since I was a kid and I cook it now the night before a game.

6. Who is your favourite band or musical artist?

I'd have to go with The Boss, Bruce Springsteen. That was the kind of music I was brought up with as a kid. Jamie Roberts is a big fan of him as well.

7. Do you have any superstitions?

I don't really have them. I've always found them quite annoying.

8. What is your favourite film?

Shawshank Redemption or Pulp Fiction.

9. What's the best ground you've played at apart from the Rec?

Being an away player I hated coming to the Rec, but the best ground I've played at away from the Rec with Bath is the Stade Mayol in Toulon for the atmosphere.

10. If you weren't a rugby player what would you be doing?

I would be in the Armed Forces, the Army. I was pretty close to joining as a kid. I went to the Army careers office, did the aptitude tests and was going to go to the military school at Wellbeck.

Then the plan was to go to university and apply for Sandhurst (royal military academy), but while I was at uni my rugby took off and here I am.

My sister Sam beat me to it and she signed up instead of me.
