Glastonbury Festival's offices will close tomorrow (Tuesday, June 2) in support of the Black Lives Matter protest movement.

Festival organisers are joining the music industry's campaign in support of protests in the United States.

Glastonbury Festival posted on Twitter at 8.21pm on Monday (June 1): "We stand against racism.

"Our offices will be closed tomorrow.

"#BlackLivesMatter #BlackOutTuesday."

The tweet was accompanied by an image about the music industry's 'black out Tuesday' campaign.

It said: "Due to recent events, please join us as we take an urgent step of action to promote accountability and change.

"As gatekeepers of the culture, it's our responsibility to not only come together to celebrate the wins, but also hold each other up during a loss.

"Join us on Tuesday, June 2 as a day to disconnect from work and reconnect with our community."

Famous artists, such as Peter Gabriel, have also tweeted their support for Black Out Tuesday.

At the time of writing #BlackOutTuesday was trending on Twitter.

The United States of America has been engulfed in days of protests since the killing of George Floyd on May 25, 2020.

A white police officer was captured on video with his knee against the detained black man's neck.

The officer has since been sacked and faces manslaughter charges.

But protests - both peaceful and violent - have seen clashes on America's streets ever since.

The US president, Donald Trump, has blamed the disruption on extreme left organisations.

He was forced to take shelter in an underground bunker during unrest in Washington DC at the weekend.
