Glastonbury Festival 2020 was supposed to be the highlight of the year in the world of music, with headline acts confirmed to include Taylor Swift, Kendrick Lamar and even a Beatle - Sir Paul McCartney.

Diana Ross was set to fill the legends slot and festival organisers had just released the first line-up poster, before the unthinkable happened.

Glastonbury Festival Poster 2020

The coronavirus pandemic meant that for the foreseeable future, all mass gatherings, including music festivals and gigs, had to be postponed and Michael and Emily Eavis made the difficult decision to put their party plans on hold until June 2021.

All the lucky people who had bagged themselves tickets in the first batch of sales in October 2019 will have their tickets carried over into next year, should they wish, meaning they will still be able to enjoy the festivities - eventually.

But due to the busy schedules of the people on that first line-up poster, how many of them will be making joining them and, if you can't see them now, when can you?

Read on to find out more about tour dates for some of the biggest stars of the Glastonbury Festival that never was...

1. Kendrick Lamar

Kendrick Lamar was one of the headliners set to perform at the festival's 50th anniversary

After the success of Stormzy last year, it was no surprise to see Kendrick Lamar announced as the third and final headliner of this year's festival, likely to have taken the Friday night slot.

He should currently be on tour, with a number of festival dates in the bag, too.

At the time of writing, his website's tour schedule lists the following dates:

  • June 27 - Oslo, Norway
  • June 28 - Stockholm, Sweden
  • July 3 - Dublin, Ireland
  • July 4 - Werchter, Belgium
  • July 5 - Hyde Park, London, UK

However, all of these events have been cancelled due to coronavirus.

No further tour dates have been announced, but it's likely Kendrick Lamar will be back on the road as soon as it's safe to do so.

Could a rearrange tour scupper any plans for him to return to the Glastonbury 2021 line-up? Time will tell.

2. Paul McCartney

A member of one of the most famous band's in music history, Sir Paul McCartney was due to headline this year's festival on the Saturday night.

His Glasto announcement on social media was a simple picture of American composer Philip Glass, actress Emma Stone and rock legend Chuck Berry who, with surnames combined, formed 'Glass-Stone-Bury' or, Glastonbury. Clever, eh?

His last Glastonbury Festival performance was all the way back in 2004, so fans were more than excited to see him at such an event as the festival's 50th birthday.

At the time of writing, and according to Sir Paul's website, all of his summer festival dates have been cancelled, as have the dates of his 'Freshen Up' tour across Europe, and no future dates are listed just yet.

3. Taylor Swift

Taylor Swift was announced as one of the headliners for this year's Glastonbury Festival

Country singer turned popstar, Taylor Swift got hearts racing when she confirmed she was to headline the Sunday night of Glasto's big 50 celebrations.

Some fans even proclaimed that she was worth having to use long drops for!

She, too, had many dates in her tour calendar and was set to perform at venues and festivals across Europe and the US.

On her website, a COVID-19 statement advises that shows in America and Brazil will be rescheduled to dates in 2021, with some US shows offering refunds to ticket holders upon request.

However, there's no news just yet as to whether she will be heading back to the UK any time soon.

The US and Brazil rearranging might suggest she's trying to replicate her 2020 schedule in 2021 - could that still include Glasto?

On the other hand, she probably already had commitments planned for 2021, which could make getting back on the Glastonbury line-up a challenge for her.

And of course everything depends on what happens with coronavirus.

4. Diana Ross

This year's Legends Slot was given to Diana Ross, who was supposed to be taking her 'Top of the World' tour to the US and Europe from March, but has had to cancel or postpone dates, due to coronavirus.

If you were due to see Diana Ross this year, it is worth heading to her website, where info on each specific date will let you know whether it has been outright cancelled, or postponed to a future date.

You'll also be able to see how you'll be updated when a new date is given.

5. Lana Del Rey

Lana Del Rey cancelled her entire UK and European tour due to illness before the coronavirus pandemic

Lana Del Rey cancelled the entire leg of her European tour the day before it was due to start, back in February, because of an illness.

This was even before the world went into lockdown because of coronavirus, so European fans were clinging on to the hope that they would still get the opportunity to see the singer at Glasto in June.

But we're sure she can't wait to get back out there once this is all over.

His 'NHS - Praise You Like I Should' gig will be taking place on October 28, 2020 at The Brighton Centre.

Tickets went on sale on April 17 and sold out super fast.

Artists like The Manic Street Preachers (who were also set to play at Glasto this year), Liam Gallagher, The Script, Rick Astley and Paul Heaton & Jacqui Abbott, have also announced they are holding gigs for NHS workers when the COVID-19 crisis is all over.

11. Haim

Haim played at Glastonbury in 2017

On June 26, 2020, no doubt when Haim should have been playing at Glasto's 50th birthday bash, the band of sisters will be releasing their new album, 'Women in Music Part 3'.

They already had some dates in the diary for festivals in the UK and the rest of Europe, which have now been cancelled or postponed due to coronavirus.
