The Wells Festival of Literature team has unveiled two potential sell-out events in October’s Festival.
Firstly, in what is a departure for the final night of 26 October, legendary Liverpool poet Roger McGough, formerly of the comedy, poetry and music trio The Scaffold, will perform an extravaganza of music and vintage, classic and surprising poems, accompanied by the band LiTTLe MACHiNe.

Secondly, the consistently soldout Book Group event is back by popular demand (Sunday 20 October), and features best-selling author Joanna Cannon, mental health campaigner, former doctor and psychiatrist, whose internationally acclaimed ‘The Trouble with Goats and Sheep’ reveals the secrets behind closed doors.
Her latest book, ‘Three Things about Elsie’, is an hilarious and heart-breaking exploration of memory, friendship and old age.

As always, the event allows the audience an exclusive conversation with the author - it is recommended to read the book in advance to get the most out of the afternoon and maybe make this event the reason to join one of the many local book groups. Tickets for both of these events will go quickly once the full line-up is displayed to Festival Friends on the July 15 at local bestselling author Ben Kane’s exclusive Roman event, prior to general release on July 22.

Join the Friends July 10 to receive an invitation to meet Ben, priority booking, a 10 per cent ticket discount and your entry to the Festival launch party in October.
Midnight on June 30 is the deadline for poets and writers of fiction to submit work to the international Festival Literary competition - offering prizes and the chance for poets’ work to be read by Simon Armitage, the new Poet Laureate.
