Officers are still investigating a serious road traffic collision in Llanllowell Lane, Llanllowell, Monmouthshire.

The incident was reported to Gwent Police at approximately 4.05pm on Sunday, February 3, and involved a car and three cyclists. 

In a statement, Gwent Police said: "One cyclist suffered minor injuries and was treated at Nevill Hall Hospital, Abergavenny, before being discharged. Two cyclists suffered serious injuries and were taken by ambulance to University Hospital Wales in Cardiff. One has since been discharged, but the other remains in a critical but stable condition.

"The car involved in the collision made off from the scene.

"A 40 year old man from the Newport area and a 45 year old woman from the Cwmbran area have both been arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving causing injury, driving whilst over the prescribed alcohol limit, and for failing to stop at the scene of a road traffic collision.

"Both remain in police custody.

"We would like to hear from anyone who has any information relating to the incident, anyone who may have witnessed the collision or even if you were a motorist driving in the area at the time using a dash cam device."

An arrest has been made after last night's incident in which three cyclists were injured in an apparent hit-and-run.

The driver, a 40-year-old has been arrested on suspicion of causing injury, driving whilst over the prescribed limit and for failing to stop at the scene of a road traffic collision. He has now been taken into police custody.

A full police statement says: "Following our enquiries into the serious road traffic collision in Llanllowell Lane, Llanllowell, Monmouthshire, officers have arrested a 40 year old man from the Gwent area on suspicion of dangerous driving causing Injury, driving whilst over the prescribed limit and for failing to stop at the scene of a road traffic collision. He has now been taken into police custody.

"We would like to hear from anyone who has any information relating to the road traffic collision, anyone who may have witnessed the collision or even if you were a motorist driving in the area at the time using a dash cam device.

Police are in pursuit of a motorist after they made off from the scene of a collision with three cyclists, it has been confirmed.

All three cyclists sustained serious injuries and have been taken to the University Hospital of Wales and Nevill Hall Hospital.

Officers, along with the police helicopter, are currently trying to locate the driver involved who police believe, after driving a short distance, made off on foot.

THE Argus has received reports of a collision on Llanllowell Lane near the A449.

Gwent Police have confirmed that they are on the scene and that the road has been closed.

They also tweeted a map which shows the 'no access' points onto Llanllowell Lane.

The police statement continued: "The road is closed and diversions are in place which may cause congestion.

"Please avoid the area if possible and find alternative routes for your journey."
