A NUMBER of places across Gwent are putting on special events to celebrate St David’s day today.

At Tredegar House, you can tackle their Welsh traditions trail through the gardens and see how many dragons you can spot hiding in the house.

The menu at the house will also have a Welsh twist, serving leek soup, cawl cennin with rarebit scones, barabrith and Welsh honey and polenta cake. Nine Old Pence will be open offering a tasty sweet and savoury bakestone pick and mix.

The event takes place between 10am and 4pm between Friday and Sunday.

This event is free, but normal admission charges apply for the venue.

Visit Big Pit National Coal Museum for a dragons and daffodils crafts and face painting event.

Wear your rugby shirt, your traditional Welsh costume or even dress as a coal miner to celebrate St David’s Day.

The event costs £2 per child.

Newport Market will be offering free face painting for children on Saturday, March 2, between 11am and 3pm.

Blaenavon Male Voice Choir will be celebrating with a special performance at the Borough Theatre in Abergavenny.

The show takes place on Tuesday, March 5, at 7.30pm. Tickets cost £8, and £7 for concessions.

The Ebbw Vale Male Choir will also be holding two special performances on Friday, March 1 and Saturday, March 2.

Both shows start at 7pm and will feature all your favourite Welsh songs.

The event is being held at Canolfan Canu on Church Street, Ebbw Vale.

Tickets cost £5.
