THE SUN is shining today, reaching temperatures of 19 degrees Celsius in Newport.

According to the Met Office this is slightly hotter than Barcelona, which today has maximum temperatures of 18 degress Celsius.

The temperature in Gwent is expected to drop during the week but increase towards the weekend and the start of next week.

Newport and Torfaen can expect sunny spells on Friday, with temperatures at around nine degrees Celsius in the morning and reaching up to 14 degrees Celsius in the afternoon.

Although there is a chance of some rain on Saturday morning this is expected to clear up throughout the day with sunshine from 4pm, reaching temperatures of 15 degrees Celsius.

On Sunday the sun should shine from 10am, with an early 7am start for the warm weather on Monday. There’s a minimum temperature of 13 degrees Celsius for Newport and Torfaen on both days.

Sunday will see maximum temperatures of 15 degrees Celsius, which increases to 16 degrees Celsius on Monday.

Caerphilly and Monmouthshire will also be able to enjoy the warm weather, although with later starts.

On Sunday, people in these areas can expect temperatures of 14 degrees Celsius from 1pm.

On Monday morning there will be temperatures of 10 degrees Celsius in Caerphilly and Monmouthshire, from 7am, peaking at 15 degrees Celsius from 1pm into the afternoon and early evening.

Although decent weather is expected throughout Blaenau Gwent, it will be slightly cooler than other areas of Gwent.

Temperatures will reach a maximum of 12 degrees Celsius on Friday; on Saturday there will be temperatures of 13 degrees Celsius from around 4pm.

Sunday will see maximum temperatures of 13 degrees Celsius in Blaenau Gwent, with this improving on Monday when there will be 11 degrees Celsius weather from 10am, increasing to 14 degrees Celsius by 1pm.
