An Ark Walworth student who described his Maths A Level exam as ‘insanely difficult’ has found out he has made the grades he needs to go to Cambridge, while another is faced with a dilemma after getting two top offers.
Jack Burt will be studying Physical Natural Sciences at St John’s College after gaining A* Maths, A* Physics and an A in Chemistry.
“I’m very happy! When I first saw the grade boundaries, I thought I might have missed out on my grades I needed. I felt terrible after my maths exam, it was insanely difficult.
“I have high standards for myself and I put in all the hard work.
“It feels surreal – it’s all I’ve been thinking about for the past few weeks. I told my mum and she started crying on the phone!
“Once I’ve finished my degree, I want a career that challenges me and allows me to make a meaningful contribution to society.
“My teachers at Ark Walworth Academy have been incredible. I don’t think I could have got into Cambridge if it wasn’t for my Physics teacher Mr. Naga, he was so supportive.”
Fellow student, Ope Adagunodo, also has a Cambridge offer, given as part of its ‘adjustment’ programme to increase diversity.
He now has to decide whether to take up the offer of a place studying Natural Sciences at Cambridge, or Physics at Imperial in London.
“I’m over the moon – I didn’t expect to do this well. I was terrified to check my results, I thought it was a prank at first.
“I phoned my mum and my sister – they were both screaming on the phone.
“My teachers at Ark Walworth Academy helped me as much as they possibly could. They gave up all their time and never missed a day.
“It feels unreal to now have the option to go to either Imperial or Cambridge. I really didn’t expect this!”
