Improved numbers this week met a cracking trade for all on offer with plenty of demand from around the ring for the big cows forward.

A premium of 149p/kg was reached twice with both cows bought by David King of Exeter, firstly for a grand 822kg Charolais x from Mr. W.G. Piper of Germoe at 149p/kg realising £1,225; at the same mark a British Blue x at 801kg made £1,193 for Mr. A.K. Stephens of Trenear, who also sold a Montbeliarde x at 148p/kg to Dawn West Devon of Hatherleigh.

A super run of Friesians for S.D. James & Co. of Summercourt saw their heaviest 872kg cow selling to Dawn West Devon at a huge price of 138p/kg and £1,203!

Another good entry of store cattle met a flying trade with some of the best prices of the year so far.

One of the highlights seen this Spring in the Market were the advertised entry on behalf of Ivey & Hawkstor Farms, Blisland of strong suckler-bred 2 year old Charolais cattle.

These big-frame bullocks filled the ring and saw the best bunch of four steers hit £1,250, with heifer fours selling at £1,130 and £1,035 – 32 more from the same farm next week!

A trio of 2yo South Devon heifers advertised for Mr. R.K. Rundle of Kestle Mill realised £985, with a pair of yearling steers from the same farm making £825.

Several young continentals £800+ including a super single 7½ month old Limousin x steer from Mr. J.M. Hinkley of Rejerrah which reached £870, with his 11 month old Limousin x heifer pair at £800.

Nice named-sire Hereford yearlings from Messrs. T.B. Dunstan & Son of St. Teath saw five steers £800 apiece and heifer at £740.
