Teen charged in McDonald’s shooting

A 15-year-old boy was charged with attempted murder and felonious assault after police say he shot a 16-year-old near a Springfield McDonald’s Wednesday.

The suspect will be held in juvenile detention until his next court date. Denials were entered to the charges on Thursday.

The victim, Kellen Etherington, was taken to Springfield Regional Medical Center and then to Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton, where he is recovering.

Etherington’s lost his older brother, Cobey to gun violence just over last year. He was Springfield’s first homicide of 2018. His murder is still unsolved.

It’s not clear what led up to the shooting.

Threatening calls made to Graham Local Schools

The Champaign County Sheriff’s Office swept Graham Local Schools Thursday after threatening phone calls were made to the schools.

The caller said there was an active shooter in the building, according to a statement from the sheriff’s office. The phone call took place after school was released for the day.

“There was no credible threat, and an all-clear led to business as usual after hours,” the school said in a press release.

An investigation led authorities to a juvenile female in New Jersey, the school said.

“(She) believed that she was contacting a gaming site, and no actual threat to students, staff or the public ever existed,” the school said.

Suspect identified in Clark County antique mall theft

Calvin Larkins, 53, was identified as the suspect in the theft of a $3,000 ring from Heart of Ohio Antique Center on Tuesday.

Larkins is being charged with felony theft, falsification and obstructing official business.

Clark County Sheriff’s Office investigators said Larkins previously gave them incorrect personal information.

Investigators used Larkins’ fingerprints to get a positive ID.

Deputies say Larkins  allegedly stole the $3,000 ring and left in a car that was outside the store. The car was later stopped on I-70 westbound near I-675.

Larkins hid the ring in his pants until it fell out in an interview room at the sheriff’s office, according to court documents.
