Report: Springfield man possibly shot in head

A Springfield man reported to police that someone threw rocks at this car and then shot him.

Springfield police began their investigation when they were approached by the man at a crash scene on Saturday at around midnight, according to a police report. He told officers he had been shot.

“He appeared to have blood coming from a wound to his head,” the affidavit says.

Officers requested backup, the police report says, and the man was photographed and taken to Springfield Regional Medical Hospital.

“(The man) stated that he was driving northwest on Selma Road near Southern Avenue when he thought someone threw a rock at his car,” the affidavit says. “He stopped his vehicle near the area and a younger male began to shoot at him. He quickly got in his vehicle and drove away, making his way to the police lights on Pine Street.”

The victim was only able to give a vague description of the suspect when he spoke to police at the hospital, the report says. He said the suspect was a male that looked like he was about 17-years-old. He was wearing a white shirt and blue shorts.

The report categorizes the incident as an assault with a deadly weapon. The victim is listed as a 25-year-old Springfield man.

“No charges have been filed at the time of this report,” the report says. “There is an ongoing investigation.”
