Cool stay of the week: a quirky abode near the Somerset Levels

The perfect country escape with a pub next door
1/10

Somerset has always been a charming destination for a weekend away and Somerset Levels - an area filled with coastal plains and wetlands - offers some stunning sights.

That's why for this week's Cool Stay of the Week, we're heading to Godney Arts House, a unique holiday home filled with art and retro furniture.

After entering through the hall, step into a country kitchen, complete with an inglenook fireplace and flagstone floors, plus everything you need to cook whilst you’re away. Walk under the archway into the sunny south facing living room and dining room, with copper dining table and velvet sofas arranged around a log burner, and set inside a marble fireplace; a perfect spot for keeping warm on winter nights.

You'll find three sumptuous bedrooms upstairs, with views to the Mendip hills at the front, and the river and garden at the back. A highlight is the bathroom with its freestanding rolltop bath.

Outside is a south-facing cottage garden with lawn, a wood shed and beautiful, mature magnolia and apple trees. In the area, you'll find a great local pub just a two-minute walk away, serving up delicious food. There is also a traditional cider farm only three miles away, and a wetland nature reserve that features a fantastic spot to spy a starling murmuration.
