This is the shocking moment a security guard kicked and shoved a homeless man outside a Westminster pub.

In footage the security guard, wearing a hi-vis jacket, lashes out at the homeless man who was walking away from the Red Lion pub in Whitehall, metres from Parliament Square.

The incident, which happened on Friday evening, was filmed by Stephen Canning, a Conservative councillor from Essex.

He posted on Twitter: “Homeless man just begging at the Red Lion by Parliament, their private security kicked him and attacked him...”

Mr Canning said he ran to intervene, standing between the pair, when the security guard continued to pursue the homeless man.

He told the Standard: "A homeless man was begging outside the Red Lion, which is common, and security asked him to move on.

"As he was leaving the area, and off the pubs property, security guard kicked him and chased him down an alleyway.

"I ran after them and put myself between the homeless man and the security guard and the situation calmed down."

He added that police were called but the homeless man had left when they arrived.

Pub chain Fullers tweeted that they have contacted the security company involved and "a full investigation is underway".

The Met Police confirmed that officers were called to an "altercation" between two men at about 8.30pm, and said no arrests have been made.
