Officials at No10 have been left-red faced after they posted a picture of the city of Bath instead of Salisbury on the anniversary of the Skripals’ poisoning.
The embarrassing mistake on Twitter showed an image of St John’s Church in Bath, rather than Salisbury Cathedral which was at the centre of the Russian Novichok poison plot.
The gaffe was spotted by eagle-eyed social media users before it was quickly removed.
Kevin Turvey said: "Should've got a Russian guide book.
David Warwick added: "Doesn't that just sum her up. Error after error."
Richard Neilson commented: "The incompetence knows no bounds."
The picture accompanied a statement from Theresa May a year on from the poisonings, in which she paid tribute to the victims, family and friends of last year’s incidents in Salisbury and Amesbury ahead of her paying a visit to Salisbury.
She added: “Today is also an opportunity to reflect on the work of so many people who have played a part in the recovery effort, from all of the dedicated emergency service workers, council staff and public servants, to the skilful and brave men and women of our armed forces who have led the unprecedented clean-up operation.”
A spokeswoman at No10 said: "The tweet was posted in human error and taken down quickly.
"I'm sure you will see pictures of the Prime Minister in Salisbury later today."
