Letter: Beyond the airport, Hawaii is gorgeous

I smiled when reading Orson Moon’s comments on the Daniel K. Inouye International Airport (“Nothing’s modern about Honolulu’s airport,” Star-Advertiser, Letters, June 13). Much as I don’t like to proffer comments whilst as a visitor, I have to agree.

It took 10 hours to fly from Australia and it took 2.5 hours to clear customs. We walked and walked and kept walking (with no restrooms obvious or available after the long flight), enjoyed the trip back in time to the ’70s decor, and then a childhood favorite — mingling in the never-ending conga lines before escaping into the sunshine.

Moon is correct: When you finally depart from the time warp, you discover that Hawaii truly is an absolutely gorgeous place with some of the friendliest people my husband and I have ever met in our travels.

We face the reverse when we fly out of your lovely country.
