WILMINGTON -- A man died in downtown Wilmington Wednesday evening after an apparent medical issue.

Wilmington Police Department spokeswoman Jennifer Dandron said that just before 5 p.m., a bystander flagged down a New Hanover County Sheriff's Office deputy with the Downtown Task Force. A man was suffering an apparent medical crisis near the intersection of Market and Second streets, beside the city parking deck.

Dandron said that officers performed CPR on the man, but those efforts were unsuccessful and he died. The man was 62, she said.

As of 5:45 p.m., the scene was still active in downtown Wilmington, and police had the area around the body taped off.

Dandron said police are still investigating the fatality.
