Dec. 13 @ Ted's Fun on the River

Original music from Southport singer-songwriter Christine Martinez of The Christine Martinez Band and Jamie Hoover, a singer, musician, and producer who led Charlotte band The Spongetones. At the heart is a love for writing power pop and rock songs in the vein of The Beatles, The Animals and The Beach Boys. Details: 7-9 p.m. Thursday, 2 Castle St., Wilmington. $3.

Box Era

Dec. 14 @ The Whiskey

Maryland band born from college party environs crafts a lush, intoxicating combination of jam band, electronic and future funk sounds laced with sultry horns. They're touring behind new EP "Xanadu," a sax heavy album that includes the dynamic "Church Dog" and the epic "Business Time." With Wilmington rock, soul and pop band UN!TY. Details: 9 p.m. Friday, 1 S. Front St., Wilmington.

A Local Christmas: Holiday Songwriter Showcase

Dec. 14 @ Bourgie Nights

Annual event in which a local performer plays one holiday song, one original song and one song that covers a local artist. Performers include Mike Blair, Travis Shallow, Justin Lacy, Chris Frisina, Sean Thomas Gerard, Kyle Lindley, Cara Schauble, Ethan Driskill, Jason Andre, Jesse & Carson Jewell, Tres Altman and Brian Stephenson. Proceeds go to Toys for Tots. Details: 7 p.m. doors, 7:30 p.m. show, Friday, 127 Princess St., downtown Wilmington. $5 suggested donation, or free with toy. 

Mt. Analogue

Dec. 14 @ The Calico Room

Electronic music showcase headlined by Dayton music producer Mt. Analogue, whose self-described "electronic dirt funk" takes the genre across a wide range of territory. With KirbyBright, Lavier and Mister. Details: 9 p.m. Friday, 107 S. Front St., Wilmington. $12, $17 for those under 21.

Leachate

Dec. 15 @ Juggling Gypsy

Showcase featuring North Carolina sludge, doom metal and noise acts. Wilmington group Leachate's recent release "910 Grindviolence" is a lengthy mix of tracks that are often short bursts both intoxicating and explosive. With Junt, who encapsulates monstrous power in minute-or-less tracks that pummel and disappear, and Baby Daddy, Herculean Locusts and Deadly Edibles. Details: 9 p.m. Saturday, 1612 Castle St., Wilmington.

The Needles

Dec. 15 @ Reggie's 42nd Street Tavern

Big reunion showcase featuring Wilmington punk and rock bands. It's headlined by The Needles, a band whose music is a loud, fast, gritty mix of punk and seat-of-your-pants rock. Soaked in blistering, grinding guitar work and catchy vocals, the band's music remains timeless. With Zodiac Panthers, Street Clones and The Girls. Details: 7 p.m. doors, 8 p.m. show, Saturday, 1415 S. 42nd St., Wilmington. $7 in advance, $10 day of show.

The Possums

Dec. 15 @ The Whiskey

Annual holiday show raising money and items for Mother Hubbard's Cupboard. Music from this local Grateful Dead tribute act brings a fresh sound to the famous band's catalog while reaching far and wide. Please bring canned or dry goods to help the less fortunate. Details: 9 p.m. Saturday, 1 S. Front St., Wilmington.

L Shape Lot

Dec. 15 @ Brooklyn Arts Center

Seventh annual Toys for Tots fundraiser show put on by Wilmington Americana, country and folk band L Shape Lot. They'll share the stage with bluegrass band Massive Grass. Each year this event raises money and toys for those in need. A highlight of the holiday season, attendees are welcome to donate new and unwrapped toys. Details: 6:30 p.m. Saturday, 516 N. Fourth St., Wilmington. $10.
