Allison Ballard StarNews Staff

Carolina Beach Road has a new restaurant that aims to serve up the favorite dishes of Mexico and Honduras. La Esquina Latín Grill opened at 2394 Carolina Beach Road in the former Tokyo Deli space in South Square Plaza.

The menu includes tacos, sopes, tortas and fajitas. Also look for traditional Honduran menu items like Chuleta Fritas, or fried pork chops, and Pollo Ceibeño, a chicken dish named for a port town on Honduras' north coast. La Esquina also serves Baleadas, flour tortillas folded in half and filled with cheese and beans, or carne asada. When the weather is chilly, they also make homemade chicken or beef soups.

La Esquina is set up for counter orders and take out, but there are also a few tables available. The restaurant is open 11 a.m.-8 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 11 a.m.-9 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
