Wilmington toddler run over by father

Accident happened Wednesday morning near Sunset Park

WILMINGTON -- A 17-month-old boy is in serious condition after his father backed over him Wednesday morning, according to a Wilmington Police Department release.

About 10 a.m., the boy's father was backing out of the driveway at 2421 Monroe St. near Wilmington's Sunset Park neighborhood when, according to police, the boy ran out of the house and into the vehicle's path.

The boy's father was taking another child to school at the time of the accident.

Neither the child nor the father have been identified by police.

Early Wednesday afternoon, crime scene wrapped around the single-family home's front yard as police stood in the street talking to neighbors.

No charges have been filed in the accident, but police are continuing to investigate.
