Wilmington police make arrest in hit-and-run investigation

Wilmington police arrested Courtnay Danielle Lawrence Tuesday evening for a hit-and-run incident that occurred on Feb. 6.

Lawrence, 21, was seen on video purposely striking a female pedestrian on Rutledge Drive. According to Wilmington police, the investigation into a hit and run revealed Lawrence intentionally attempted to strike a pedestrian, who is the father of her four children, but did strike the pedestrian with whom he was walking on Rutledge Drive last week.

The victim told officers she was walking back from the store with an acquaintance when she heard a horn honking and saw the man with whom she was walking jump out of the way. Lawrence struck the victim on her right hip, launching her into the air several feet, before landing on her left side. The victim suffered multiple injuries to her head, shoulder, hips and knees.

Magistrate Laura Barnes issued Lawrence a $25,000 unsecured bond. Lawrence will make her first appearance in New Hanover County District Court at 2 p.m. today.
